Parents Resources Picks: 3rd Grade

How can parents support academic growth at home?

Whether you home school or you need to support your kids at home. Here’s some workbooks my son and I found useful and helpful:

Jumbo Math Success Workbook – By Sylvan Learning

Building a strong foundation in math is essential as 3rd graders prepare to advance to more difficult math concepts.

My son loves math, so I got him this book to work on over during the weekend or after school. He reads the problem and does it. He sometimes spends hours in his room doing page after page.
This book is a great mix of math skills, with enough fun to keep him interested. It is actually 3 books combined into one, and the divisions are clear. The lessons in the first two books seem to go with each other and the third is more like a standalone book.

Smarter Balanced English (Test Practice) –

My son will benefit from this book as he prepares for the state standard test (EOG). He is still working on exercises and assessments, and he thinks the book is good.

Reading Tests – Scholastic

This book is great.

Each test reviews the following skills:

  • finding the main idea
  • reading for detail
  • understanding vocabulary
  • making inferences
  • sequencing
  • understanding cause and effect
  • understanding author’s purpose
  • understanding fact and opinion

Human Body – Activity Book For Kids

Give curious kids the gift of fun activities to help them learn about their bodies—for ages 4 to 8

From teeth to eyes and ears to skin and bones, there’s a lot to discover about the human body! Featuring crosswords, mazes, and more, the Human Body Activity Book for Kids is bursting with all kinds of activities to help kids understand how their bodies work, and how to keep them healthy and strong.

Multiplication 0-12

I like these flash cards. They help me quiz my boy for his weekly multiplication tests at school.

United States and World Map for kids

I have noticed that kids don’t start learning about geography at an early age. I used to know a lot of countries and their capitals when I was 8 years old. My son doesn’t know anything!

I have purchased this map, and I hope it will help him understand the world around him.

Lastly…

Reading, reading, and a lot of reading will help our kids at least be good writers one day. 😉

Note: I am not advertising and I do not advertise any books. I am just sharing some helpful resources with other parents and caregivers.
