2024 Paris Olympics – Top 10 Favorite Moments

Despite all the drama that occurred during the 2024 Olympics, here are my top 10 favorite moments of all:

1 – Celine Dion delivered a stunning performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She graced the opening ceremony with her presence and sang Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à L’Amour” at the base of the Eiffel Tower, marking her first live show since revealing her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome.

The event was a significant moment, not only for the Olympics but also for Celine Dion’s career, as she made a courageous return to the stage. Her performance was a highlight of the ceremony and was met with widespread acclaim.

2- Simone Biles had an impressive performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics! She won four medals, including three golds andone silver. She claimed gold in the all-around, vault, and team finals, and took silver in the floor exercise.

This brings her total Olympic medal count to 11, making her one of the most decorated gymnasts in history. Despite some challenges, including missing the podium in the balance beam final, Biles showed incredible resilience and skill.

3 – Imane Khelif had a remarkable journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won the gold medal in the women’s welterweight boxing event, “Woooohooooo!”

Representing Algeria. In the finals, Khelif defeated China’s Liu Yang by unanimous decision. Her victory was not only a testament to her skill but also a triumph over the controversy surrounding her participation.

The Olympics faced scrutiny over her gender, but the International Olympic Committee (IOC) declared Khelif eligible to compete, reaffirming her right to participate. After her win, she celebrated with her coaches in an emotional victory lap.

Khelif’s success at the 2024 Olympics is a continuation of her impressive boxing career. She has become an inspirational figure, especially after being appointed as a UNICEF ambassador to Algeria, using her platform to inspire disadvantaged girls and children.

Her Olympic gold adds to her legacy as a prominent athlete and a symbol of perseverance and determination.

4 – Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone delivered a stunning performance by winning the gold medal in the women’s 400-meter hurdles. She not only won but also set a new world record with a time of 50.37 seconds.

This victory marks her as a three-time Olympic gold medalist and solidifies her status as one of the greatest in the sport. Her achievement is celebrated as she continues to push the boundaries of athletic excellence.

5 – Gianmarco Tamberi the athlete who lost his wedding ring during the 2024 Paris Olympics is an Italian high jumper. The incident occurred during the opening ceremony when Tamberi was participating in the boat procession along the Seine River.

Unfortunately, his wedding ring slipped off and fell into the river. Tamberi took to Instagram to express a heartfelt apology to his wife, Chiara Bontempi Tamberi, for the mishap. Despite the loss, he turned the situation into a positive, reflecting on the poetic side of the incident and suggesting that the ring will forever remain in the riverbed of the city of love.

6 – Rossella Fiamingo and Gregorio Paltrinieri aren’t just an Olympic couple; they’re a gold medal-winning Olympic couple. Fiamingo, a fencer, won gold for Italy; meanwhile, swimmer Paltrinieri added to his haul with a silver in the 1500m freestyle and a bronze in the 800m freestyle. The couple now has a total of seven medals between them.

“We both knew we wanted these medals and tonight we wanted to come back with a medal each to celebrate,” Fiamingo told Olympics.com. “One wasn’t enough. We both wanted to be happy with our performances.”

7 – China’s 18-year-old gymnast Zhou Yaqin went viral with her spontaneous reaction at the podium of the Paris Olympics 2024.

Yaqin was pipped to the gold by Italy’s Alice D’Amato after suffering a slip on the beam during her routine at the balance beam final on August 6.

The 18-year-old Chinese athlete was awarded the silver medal while Manila Esposito took the bronze medal.

Following the final, Zhou Yaqin smiled and posed for photographs and videos with the other contestants when an innocent reaction made her appearance viral on social media.

A cartoon drawing showed the two Italian athletes doing the tradition of medal chomp (biting the medal) after gaining victory.

8- Novak Djokovic, a 37-year-old Serb, has done so much in his tennis career: winning 24 Grand Slam singles titles, earning the world No. 1 ranking and raking in over $180 million in prize money. But when he finally achieved the only major milestone missing from his illustrious résumé, an Olympic gold medal, he was overcome with emotion.

Normally unflappable, Djokovic got down onto the clay at Roland Garros and hunched over. His hands trembled. When he sat on the bench to cry some more, his body shook. He ran into the stands to find his family and sobbed as he held his 6-year-old daughter. “Biggest achievement in my career,” he said. – Nytimes.com

9 – Léon Marchand had an outstanding performance at the 2024 Olympics.

Those incredible achievements contributed to his reputation as one of the top swimmers in the world, earning him the nickname ‘the new Phelps. Marchand’s success at the Paris 2024 Olympics has been a significant highlight for France, especially as he achieved these feats in front of a home crowd.

10 – I watched a 3×3 basketball game and I was so surprised! I had no idea that a game with only 3 vs 3 players even existed before the Olympics.

The 3×3 basketball tournament followed a fast-paced format, with games played on a half-court and each team consisting of four players (three on court and one substitute.)

The energy in the arena was electric, with fans from all over the world cheering on their teams. The urban setting of the venue added a unique vibe to the event, reflecting the streetball roots of 3×3 basketball.
