Rum Balls

What snack would you eat right now?

I like all the sweets. Mostly chocolate.

I was chatting with my grandmother on WhatsApp, who lives in my hometown in Algeria. I inquired about some traditional recipes, but she informed me that she no longer cooks due to her knee problems. She finds it difficult to stand for extended periods and, of course, her eyesight is not as good as it used to be.

However, my grandma shared a quick and easy recipe with me, but without any measurements. She never used measuring cups or spoons in her life and relied on her intuition to make delicious food.

Rum Balls.

So, I went ahead and made them, but I made a few changes to my grandma’s rum ball recipe. I think you’ll love these little bites of heaven.

Ingredients:

– One bowl of roasted, unsalted almonds.

– One bowl of roasted, unsalted peanuts.

– One bowl of oats (I used thick rolled oats, but you can choose to use a different kind of oat).

– 7 pitted dates.

– Half a bowl of cocoa.

– 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds.

– Honey.

How to make it?

First, steam the dates. They’re stubborn and hard to mix with the rest of the ingredients.

Grind almonds, peanuts, oats, and sesame seeds.

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl with a metal or wooden spoon.

Scoop them into balls. I like using a tablespoon.

Roll the treats in powdered sugar, cocoa, or shredded coconut. I rolled some of them in cocoa and dipped the rest in melted chocolate. Then, let them set on wax paper.

After that, remove them and transfer them into a container or baking cups.

They are absolutely delicious, so enjoy! 👩🏻‍🍳
