Innocent Love

Children are adorable and their stories are even more adorable. Yesterday, I picked up my kids from school, and on our way back home, my daughter told me that they had exchanged Valentine’s Day cards.

I replied, “Oh, that’s great!”

She then said, “And guess what? Jackson told me that he has a crush on me!”

I was surprised and exclaimed, “What? Why? How? Based on what? Is it based on J is for Jackson, JJJJJJ…”

and we both laughed out loud.

So, the question is based on what? Is it based on exchanging and sharing peanut butter jelly sandwiches, learning the alphabet together, or playing during recess?

So I looked at her and said, “No inappropriate behavior, okay?”

She asked, “Like kissing?”

I replied, “No kissing, yes.”

She said, “Don’t worry, Mama, we’ll just dance together only.”

So I thought, I can’t believe how insightful kindergarteners can be. This generation always surprises me. I’m not ready for my kids to become teenagers yet.

I looked again at my daughter and said: “Enjoy playing with cutie Jackson before he becomes kicking king, kicks you, and moves on quickly.”

Both my kids looked at me and said: “Wait whaaaaat?”

I replied: “Exactly.”

Not to disappoint my kids, but to make them aware that love hurts sometimes. and nothing hurts more than being disappointed by the one person who you thought would never hurt you. And never lose yourself while trying to hold on to someone who doesn’t care about losing you.

However, it’s not the end of the world if you’re disappointed in love. The world is full of people who will love you for who you are.

I should be positive on Valentine’s Day!

So, what are you going to tell your loved ones today?

Here’s a quote from Shakespeare: “You will never age for me, nor fade, nor die.” — Shakespeare in Love.

Happy Valentine’s Day my dear bloggers. 💕🌷

  1. I’m a retired elementary teacher who saw many crushes and “break ups.” My favorite note that I intercepted was written by a third grade girl who asked a boy, “Will you go with me until recess?” Mind you, this is the middle of class. What exactly did you have in mind? 🤣
