The Art of Parenting – Discipline

What public figure do you disagree with the most?

I find Robert Greene’s insights and ideas quite interesting. I follow him on Instagram. I appreciate the practical wisdom but not everything he says make sense.

I certainly disagree with him on certain thoughts.

However, I watched one of his interviews and agreed with him on the following:

He said β€œ You want young people to resist the times, if you develop disciplines, if you cut short on Instagram, if you force yourself to learn a foreign language, if you make your kids learn and play piano, they’re gonna be the biggest weirdo in the neighborhood, but they are gonna be the masters of their future.”

Yes, and yes I agree! πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

My son had some bad grades in the most recent math test, and I am worried about EOG.

So I changed the method of parenting with him. I changed/added some rules. Like no video games during the week.

He came to me yesterday holding his laptop and told me that he had done some research.

He found out that a scientist claimed that parents could let their kids play video games for one hour per day during the week.

I was not expecting that, so I laughed so hard and said, “I bet that scientist’s parents didn’t let him play video games when he was a kid. That’s why he became a scientist.”

He responded, “Okay, I don’t want to become a scientist.”

So I replied, “You’re not allowed to play games during the week. Period.”

β€œCould you please help me with a math problem?” I asked him.

He said, “Yes, I can try!”

I asked,” What is 85 multiplied by 85?”

So he said he couldn’t calculate it mentally and needed a pen and paper. I gave him the answer, which is 7,225, and then I asked him to give me any double-digit number that ends in 5, and I was able to give him the answer right away.”

He replied, ‘You’re a genius!”

I responded, “I’m not a genius. This is a math strategy that anyone can learn. I picked it up as a kid when I wasn’t playing video games.”

He gave me a stank look and went to his room. πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

I am an evil mom, but one day he will know how much I loved him.

My son participates in Taekwondo and soccer twice a week each. He also has online Arabic classes twice a week, and we work on math problems every day since he got those bad grades.

On the weekends, he enjoys playing video games. I think his schedule is busy for everyday video games. πŸ’πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Am I a bad mom?
